Certain Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) candidates will have access to work permits to ensure they do not lose their status.
These Manitoba-specific work permits can be valid for a period of up to two years.
To qualify, a Manitoba PNP candidate must:
Hold a work permit that will expire within 45 days, or have held a work permit that expired in 2024 or 2025;
Have been living in Manitoba continuously since prior to January 15, 2025;
Have had on January 15, 2025 a valid MPNP Expression of Interest profile, and continue to have a valid profile;
Possess a letter of employment from their present employer in Manitoba.
They also have to fulfill other program requirements set by the federal government (see below).
The MPNP will open up to taking applications for these work permits from April 22, 2025.
In case an MPNP candidate meets the criteria, they may submit an online application to the MPNP for a Support Letter that they will present in their application for a work permit to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Applications for these work permits will be accepted up to December 31, 2025, when the federal government's temporary public policy expires.
Manitoba Labour and Immigration Minister Malaya Marcelino made the coming availability of these work permits public on 15 April, 2025.
Foreign nationals who already hold a Letter of Advice to Apply to the Manitoba PNP are ineligible for this special work permit.
These work permits will be given in line with IRCC's "Temporary public policy to facilitate work permits for prospective Provincial Nominee Program candidates."
